This type of grate is mainly suitable for high-calorific and baking fuels. Uniform load and cooling of the grate bars is achieved via the circulating grate layer. The velocity of circulation is infinitely variable and the undergrate air can be controlled in sections. The travelling grate can be combined with a spreader feeding.
The air-cooled travelling grate is an endless strip on which individual grate bars are mounted. The burnt out fuel gets accumulated at the pendulum at the end of the grate and is discharged into the ash hopper.
The combustion air, which at the same time serves as cooling for the grate bars, is fed to the furnace via independently controllable undergrate air zones. It seeps in to the fuel bed through air slots in the grate bars.
The entire grate is driven by an infinitely variable hydraulic motor.
